The Washington Redskins 1982 season was the franchise’s 51st season in the National Football League (NFL) and their 46th in Washington, D.C.. Although the Redskins lost all their preseason games, they were to advance from an 8–8 record the previous season to become the only team in NFL History to win the Super Bowl after not winning a pre-season game. Only the 1990 Buffalo Bills and the 2000 New York Giants have since made it to the Super Bowl after a winless pre-season.

The 1982 NFL season was shortened from sixteen games per team to nine because of a players’ strike. The NFL adopted a special 16-team playoff tournament; eight teams from each conference were seeded 1–8, and division standings were ignored. Washington had the best record in the NFC, and were the number one seed in the conference for the playoff tournament.

The Redskins marched through the NFC playoffs, beating each of their opponents by an average of 19 points. In a rematch of Washington’s only prior Super Bowl appearance ten years prior, the Redskins – in a game famous for Washington’s “70 Chip” play on fourth-and-1 – went on to beat the Miami Dolphins 27–17 to win Super Bowl XVII.  More

The Washington Redskins 1983 season was the franchise’s 52nd season in the National Football League (NFL) and their 47th in Washington, D.C.. The season began with the team trying to win consecutive Super Bowls, following their victory in Super Bowl XVII against the Miami Dolphins. Washington’s 14–2 record was the best in the NFL. Though the Redskins did win their second-consecutive NFC Championship they were blown out by the Los Angeles Raiders in Super Bowl XVIII, 9–38.

The Redskins’ 541 points scored and +209 point differential was the best in the league, with the 541 points setting an NFL record at the time. The 1983 Redskins also had a turnover margin of +43, an NFL record. Washington was the first team since the merger to record more than 60 takeaways (61).

The Washington Redskins 1972 season was the team’s 41st, and 36th in Washington, D.C. The Redskins were trying to build on the success of the previous season, in which they had made the postseason for the first time in 26 seasons.

Head coach George Allen, in just his second season with the team, took the Redskins to their first Super Bowl.The team, who had missed the postseason in the entirety of the 1950s and 1960s, won its first postseason game since 1943, and appeared in its first league championship game since 1945.

The NFC champion Redskins would ultimately lose a very close Super Bowl VII, 14–7, to the undefeated Miami Dolphins.

The 1972 season was the first in which the team wore its current and primary logo, which features a Native American head in profile within a gold circle. With the Washington Senators relocating to Texas in 1971 and the Baltimore Bullets not relocating until 1973 the 1972 Redskins were at the time the D.C. area’s only team playing in one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. The Washington Redskins 1987 season was the franchise’s 56th season in the National Football League (NFL) and their 52nd in Washington, D.C. The season was a shortened due to the 1987 NFL strike.

The team had finished second in the NFC East the previous season with a 12–4 record. Games to be played during the third week of the season were canceled, and replacement players were used to play games from weeks 4 through 6.

The Redskins won the NFC East with an 11–4 record. The Redskins defeated the Denver Broncos 42–10 to win Super Bowl XXII. It was the Redskins’ second Super Bowl win in six seasons, and coincidentally, their second Super Bowl win in a strike-season.

Redskins quarterback Doug Williams became the first black quarterback to start in a Super Bowl and was the only individual to have emerged victorious until Russell Wilson won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seattle Seahawks.

By virtue of the Redskins’ 17-10 victory over Minnesota in the NFC title game, head coach Joe Gibbs earned his 10th playoff victory.  More

The Washington Redskins 1991 season was the franchise’s 60th season in the National Football League (NFL) and their 55th in Washington, D.C.. The Redskins dominated the league all season, winning their first eleven games. Their two losses were by margins of 3 and 2 points, respectively.

The Redskins led the league in scoring with 485 points and allowed the second-fewest points (224) in the league in 1991. (As of the 1991 season, this was the third-highest total in NFL history, and still ranks in the top 20 all-time.) They had a +18 turnover ratio, also best in the NFL. In 2016, Chris Chase of USA Today ranked the team as the greatest to ever win a Super Bowl. To date, this is the Redskins’ most recent Super Bowl appearance.
