The ice hockey competitions of the 2014 Winter Olympics were played at two venues, located 300 meters from the other, within the Olympic Park in Sochi, Russia. The Bolshoy Ice Dome, which seats 12,000, resembles a Fabergé egg. The Shayba Arena, seating 7,000, and planned as a moveable structure as yet not moved from its Olympic Park site. Both venues are international sized (60 meters by 30 meters).

The men’s tournament had twelve teams competing and the women’s tournament had eight teams: tournament play began on 8 February 2014. The women’s concluded on 20 February and the men’s on 23 February.

Canada men’s and Canada women’s national teams went through the tournament undefeated repeating its gold medalist achievements at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. More

The 2008 Olympics U.S. Men’s Basketball Team represented the United States of America at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. They qualified for the Olympics by winning the FIBA American Championships 2007 held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The team was nicknamed the ” 2008 Redeem Team “, a play on an alternative name for the legendary 1992 squad that was called the “Dream Team”, and a reference to the fact that the United States came away with disappointing Bronze Medals during the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2006 FIBA World Championship. Kobe Bryant was named the team captain and Mike Krzyzewski was named the head coach of the 2008 team. LeBron James, called the “voice of the U.S. team” by Time, stated: “It’s the gold, or it’s failure.” An ESPN program, Road to Redemption, followed the team’s preparations.

The United States defeated Spain 118-107 in the final to win the gold. Dwyane Wade was the leading scorer for team USA averaging 16 points per game.  More

The 1972 Dream Team United States men’s Olympic basketball team represented the United States at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. Led by Tom Henderson and Dwight Jones, the team would go on to win the Silver medal. In the final game of the Olympics, Team USA controversially lost for the first time in Summer Olympic Games competition, and ended their 63-game winning streak (the streak began in the 1936 Summer Olympics). The men’s national basketball team of the United States won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Defending the gold medal won by the 2008 team in the previous Olympic Games, the Americans qualified for the 2012 Games after winning the 2010 FIBA World Championship. The Olympic team lost some players to injuries who might have made the team, and appeared to be short on big men. Their roster featured five players returning from the 2008 Olympic team and five others from the 2010 World Championship. Coming off his successful season in the National Basketball Association (NBA), LeBron James became the leader of the Olympic team.

The USA went undefeated but appeared vulnerable in five exhibition games. They finished the tournament with a perfect 8–0 record, defeating opponents by an average of 32 points while trailing in the fourth quarter only once. The Americans often played with a small lineup that emphasized speed, quickness, and outside shooting. The team set an Olympic single-game record with 156 points scored against Nigeria in the preliminary round. In a rematch of the 2008 finals, Team USA again defeated Spain to capture the gold. More
